A place the prose can inhabit
Abdi reads Boys of Love as a successful return to the southern world Rabihavi knows closely. He gives particular weight to the descriptions of landscape and social life, seeing them as making the novel’s situations persuasive. The setting is part of the work’s achievement rather than a decorative regional signature. Source 1
His praise carries a comparison with other work. Abdi says some later plays about women had become overly declarative, whereas this novel often allows social questions to emerge through the lives of Jamil and Naji. The disagreement about those plays remains his assessment. Source 1
Feeling carried through characters
The review follows the lovers’ exposure to humiliation, coercion and insecurity. Abdi values the construction of relationships that draws readers into an unfamiliar life without requiring prior identification with the characters. He distinguishes narrative involvement from a slogan about the subject. Source 1
The originating Radio Farda page names Abdi. Kodoom’s same-date syndication supplies the outlet credit but omits his individual byline. The originating credit is retained, while the article’s incidental edition claims do not replace the separately reconciled publication record. Source 1
Private loss beside a public arrival
Abdi singles out a passage that places the television broadcast of Khomeini’s arrival and speech beside a woman’s miscarriage. He describes the simultaneous narration through an analogy with parallel film editing, reading the pairing as an image of a generation’s threatened future. His example makes the relation between historical events and private lives a question of narrative arrangement, as well as subject matter. Source 1
