Making a film through encounters
Vahid Keshavarz Sarkar’s Filming Exile: An Analysis of the Making of Colours of Exile accompanies his documentary about Iranian artists living away from their homeland. Its abstract distinguishes different experiences of displacement and considers how exile changes an artist’s identity, working conditions and creative practice. Source 1
On printed pages 94–95, Sarkar identifies Rabihavi as someone he met and interviewed for the film, connecting that encounter with his earlier conversations with Ebrahim Golestan. The surrounding account names filmmakers, performers, painters and musicians whose experiences make the documentary a conversation among different kinds of artistic work. Source 1
This is the filmmaker’s account of the production and its research method. March 2025 belongs to the thesis title page; it does not establish an exact film premiere or the date of Rabihavi’s interview. The thesis supplies a link to the film’s final version, while this guide concerns the written research and its clearly located Rabihavi passage. Source 1
