A range of responses, with their voices intact

The retained Goodreads page brings together sixteen community-review entries in several languages. Thibaut’s 6 August 2022 response values the sustained monologue, emotional force and challenge to social conventions. Isaac Orzuna’s 1 May 2024 Spanish-language response emphasises the search for a safe place to exist and the violence faced by queer people. Source 1

Other readers question the form. Paul B’s 4 September 2022 response argues that the novel’s ambitious range of subjects weakens its structure and intimacy. Floflyy, writing on 22 May 2025, finds the accumulation of exploitation, militias and exile oppressive, while still valuing the historical perspective. Their disagreement belongs to the individual readers; it is not collapsed into a single critical verdict. Source 1

The page combines responses associated with different translations and editions. It does not establish that every reviewer read the same text, and its changing ratings are not used as a current score. Nor are its general book fields substituted for the separate publisher and library records. Readers can follow the original page for the complete comments and their individual dates. Source 1
