Reading orientation
The plumber speaks to the wall image in the language of supplication, but also explains the very ordinary repair that helped produce it. His account moves between professional knowledge and the danger of being blamed by people who see the damp mark as sacred. Paying a guard to enter adds another transaction to this encounter. Source 2
The monologue lets incompatible explanations occupy the same surface. A leaking pipe, a poor household and a crowd’s demands become inseparable from the image’s authority. Read the speaker’s changes of register as part of the satire; they do not establish the author’s own profession or beliefs. Source 2
Publication and language
The main link is Baang’s Persian publication of 29 August 2023. Another Baang page dated 10 May 2023 and Radio Zamaneh’s 4 July 2012 appearance contain the same story opening. The Avaye Tabeid issue 30 appearance is further publication context, rather than a new work. Source 1 · Source 3 · Source 4 · Source 5
A damp wall and an unpaid worker
The plumber objects to draining waste against Bibi’s wall, while Safdar prefers the cheaper work to a proper repair. Dampness, a religious image and money become entangled. Safdar pays only half the worker’s wages and spreads the claim that the plumber is hostile to the apparition. The accusation serves a practical interest as well as a public belief. Source 6
The image also gathers threats around the plumber’s birthmark. Others interpret it as punishment and speak of killing him as a religious act. He flees towards the palm grove and tries to cling to the enormous image, only to find that it offers no physical hold. The ending brings a crowd’s demand for sacrifice against the flat surface on which its certainty has been built. Source 6
