Play

Look Europe!

An English play script concerning the detention of journalist Faraj Sarkohi.

The work

The University of Leeds work record identifies an English play script composed in 1997. It concerns Faraj Sarkohi, the Iranian journalist detained in 1996. Source 2

At the Almeida reading, the work passed between several voices: the journalist, a security man, a secretary and a tramp. The official Pinter archive preserves their performers and Gari Jones’s directing credit. Source 1

Malu Halasa’s obituary of Nilou Mobasser identifies her as the play’s translator in 1997. Halasa also remembers Mobasser, Rabihavi and Pinter appearing at the Southbank Centre with Salman Rushdie and Doris Lessing to discuss freedom of expression. Her personal account supplies a translation credit and another public setting for the work. Source 23
