Entering the hall

The brief extract moves from women mourning on wet grass beneath a starry June sky to permission to enter the next day. Beds line a long tiled hall, and bodies are surrounded by sheets and bandages. Each woman searches for her own man before the shared scene breaks into individual cries. Recognition gives the paragraph its movement from a gathering outside to an intimate encounter at a bedside. The archived publication

Khalil Paknia posted this fragment beside a November 2010 BaghDarBagh electronic-edition announcement. The passage begins and ends with omissions, so the scene’s position in the complete novel is not established here. Its publication trace sits alongside the separately documented print editions of Maryam’s Smile. Source 1
