Stoning

War, shelter and the pressure of sexual politics.

The work

Golden Thread introduces a nurse sheltering a patient during the Iran–Iraq war. Its question about adultery places a private encounter under public judgement. Source 4

The work has separate Amsterdam, San Francisco and London records. Their companies, directors and translation credits belong to those particular presentations, tracing how the same play enters different theatrical settings. Source 5 · Source 6 · Source 7

In the 2001 programme, Rabihavi’s author’s notes describe a secular family surviving under the threat of public punishment, and a woman deciding to express her feelings despite the consequences. The note reports French, Dutch and German translations and Paris and Amsterdam readings in 1999; it supplies no detailed Paris production record. Source 5
