Gisu

Gisso · Gīsū · Gisoo

Latin transliteration of the Persian novel title.

The work

Original language: Persian

Baang’s introduction follows a newly released political prisoner searching for self and love amid politics and violence. The catalogue carries early Iranian and later Bonn editions, while the author’s account of permission remains a separate chronology. Gisso is the Bonn edition’s German parallel title; that book is in Persian.

Princeton records an uncertain Tehran place and a supplied 1993 date; Libris corroborates 1993 and Q. Rabihavi. This institutional edition evidence does not settle the difference from the author’s permission account.

Reading the editions

Gisu · permission and publication

Two kinds of date.

Princeton and Libris record an early Gisu edition dated [13]72 [1993]. The later prison bibliography in Avaye Tabeid 31 names an author-published Tehran book in autumn 1372. In his censorship conversation, Rabihavi recalls obtaining permission for Gisu in 1373. A catalogue date, a later bibliography and an author’s account of permission describe different evidence.

The early record remains beside the later Mina and Goethe & Hafis editions. An original title and colophon page is needed to reconcile the early chronology; the later imprints do not settle it retrospectively.

Pendaar · Persian

A later publisher, an undated record.

Pendaar’s own catalogue lists Gisu by Rabihavi. The entry supplies no printing year, ISBN or edition statement, so its publication date remains open.

This publisher record sits beside the dated Iranian and Bonn editions. Its existence does not retrospectively resolve the early difference between a library publication date and Rabihavi’s account of receiving permission.

Sources

  1. Gisu · Avaye Tabeid’s prison bibliography

Archive record · The bibliography in issue31, Winter 1401 (2023), lists Gisu by Rabihavi, author-published in Tehran in autumn 1372, on printed page 110 (PDF 111). This later bibliographic statement corroborates the early author-published library record but is not an inspected original colophon. The same bibliography separately lists Aroos in Adineh 52.

  2. Censorship and self-censorship · Radio Zamaneh

Author interview · Page dated 15 February 2011. Author replies identify Memoirs as a story collection and discuss licences for Gisu, From This Place, Maryam and Iranian Four Seasons. The introductory chronology contains an apparent error.

  3. Persian editions and parallel titles · German National Library

Library catalogue · Captured records identify four Goethe & Hafis books as Persian. Their German parallel titles do not establish German translations.

  4. Gisu · Libris

Library catalogue · The actual returned record identifies Gisu/Gisso, Persian, Goethe & Hafis, Bonn, 2020 and ISBN 9783940762825. The extraction’s generic short-response warning does not negate these explicit fields.

  5. Gisu · published extract and introduction · Baang

Editorial profile · The introduction describes a newly released political prisoner seeking self and love. Its early-publication year, 1372, differs from the author’s recollection of permission in 1373. The linked extract is in Persian; no English literary translation is supplied here.

  6. Persian editions · Libris catalogue records

Library catalogue · The retained original MODS and JSON responses contain real edition fields: Afsane’s Persian Maryam, Gardoun and Pendaar Boys, and the 2023 Persian Four Seasons. Dates, first/second-edition labels and language codes are retained as catalogue evidence; they do not establish complete contents equivalence or German translations.

  7. Gisu · Princeton Library · 1993 record

Library catalogue · The returned record gives [Tehran?], Q. Rabihavi, [13]72 [1993]. The uncertain place and supplied date brackets remain visible. No ISBN or precise printing date is supplied.

  8. Gisu · Princeton Library · Mina edition

Library catalogue · The returned record identifies Tehran, Nashr-i Mina, 1398 [2019], ISBN 9786005200294. It is a later edition record, not a settled first-publication date.

  9. Four Persian books · Pendaar publisher catalogue

Publisher · The publisher lists Persian-language books by Rabihavi: Gisu, Maryam’s Smile, A Ballad of Love and Iranian Four Seasons. It explicitly describes the latter two as story collections. No publication year, edition number or ISBN accompanies these four listings, so none is inferred. Its Boys of Love listing is not counted as an additional printing.
