Reading orientation

The published episode places a woman in her brother’s house early in the morning. He shaves and smokes by the window while she explains why she needs somewhere to stay. The apparently ordinary domestic arrangement gives her account of homelessness an audience that may not be listening. Source 2

She remembers her husband’s affection alongside his refusal to put the house in her name. His children’s sale of the property turns that contradiction into an immediate need for a room. The scene lets an inheritance question emerge through pauses, dependence and the speaker’s efforts to preserve her account of love. Source 2
